KazMunayGaz is a national company for subsoil use, participating in the implementation of the unified state policy in the oil and gas industry. KMG accounts for over a quarter of the Kazakhstans oil and gas condensate market and occupies a dominant position in oil refining, transportation of oil and natural gas in the country. Kazakhstan is ranked 12th in the world proven reserves of oil ad gas condensate, 25th in natural gas reserves and 17th in oil and gas production (statistical review of the world energy by BP for 2016). The oil and gas sector represents about 15% of the Kazakh methane emissions (UNFCCC 2012), and the recent Rhodium report has projected that emissions of the country will grow in the next decade. Over the last few years, KMG has actively worked on addressing methane emissions from oil and gas systems. |
