Partner Profile

Type of Organization: Research
Description of Services:

A PhD research study at the University of Mons assessed the residual methane in an abandoned underground coal mine in Belgium using geological and mining data. The approach combined the vertical stress profile, subsidence imaging, and the O-ring concept. The findings indicate that the abandoned mine contains a significant quantity of recoverable abandoned mine methane (AMM). Given the availability of advanced technology for AMM production, this approach can be applied to estimate residual gas resources in abandoned underground coal mines worldwide.
